Sumner Road

A “painted lady” in a neighborhood of colorful Victorians, this house had a kitchen that was cramped and dark.  Though ideally oriented with potential views toward the south and east, the old kitchen had no view, no sun, and no space for a family with three children.  By adding only four feet in the back, a bright, warm inviting kitchen was created along with a breakfast area, window seat and computer station overlooking a comfortable deck that flows into the backyard.  By adding only 25 square feet, a beautiful side entry that matched the style of the house, and a much-needed mudroom and powder room were added.  Upstairs a new serene spa-like bathroom was created by combining an existing poorly laid out closet and the old small family bath without sacrificing storage.  This house was featured in the Historic Newton House Tour 2010.
